In 1919, the line Dilbeek - Brussels was electrified. Until then, the trams of the local railways operated with steam locomotives. The "water castle" has a pump on the ground floor that pumped water into the overhead metal storage tank. The pump was powered by a hot air engine but could also be manually operated with a large wheel. On the outside of the water tank, there is the water level meter and the tube through which the steam locomotives could replenish their water supply. In the wood magazine, the bundles for igniting the fire were stored.
