The Dutch family Van Rennes, who bought the castle in 1990, immediately began to establish a vineyard. Joyce van Rennes, a winemaker and daughter of the owner, tells us that wine has been cultivated in this spot since the Romans. Somewhere during the Napoleonic era, that culture was lost. The story goes that Napoleon allegedly ordered the vineyards
in the Netherlands to be destroyed. Whether this is actually true,
is unclear, but the fact is that the thriving wine culture disappeared from this area at that time.
Over the past fifteen years, the vineyard has steadily expanded. In 1991, the family started planting 2,350 vines on 4,500 square meters. The vineyard of the castle now comprises sixteen hectares. Only one hectare of Pinot Noir remains for the red wine. In addition to Chardonnay, the Van Rennes also produce various types of eau de vie.
