The former Cloth Hall is a gem of Flemish medieval architecture that was built in the gracious setting of the Grote Markt. Especially during the summer months, when the Town Hall is adorned with the eleven heraldic flags and decorated with colorful flower columns, it forms a beautiful sight.
The Belfry, which was protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1999, has housed a carillon since the 16th century. This carillon, which was recently restored, has 49 bells with a total weight of 6,800 kg. This means that Dendermonde has a so-called full carillon according to the Mechelen standard.
In the Town Hall the visitor can get acquainted with the beautiful interior and the numerous paintings of the 'Dendermondse schilderschool'. We can get acquainted with the work of current painters, sculptors and ceramists in the Administrative Centre and the Belgica Cultural Centre.
