The forest is located on the Kluisberg, a mountain that lies just on the language border. It is the largest mountain in the Flemish Ardennes. There are also 2 Dolmens from Roman times. During the First World War there was a lot of logging in the forest, the flanks were then largely completely cut down. Later the forest was replanted, largely with Beech trees.
