Wanzele

Wanzele is a village in the municipality of Lede, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The village is located in the Dender region.
Until the 13th century, Wanzele and Schellebelle belonged to one seigneury. In 1537, the manor of Wanzele was sold by Emperor Charles V to Adriaan Bette of the House of Bette. From 1683 to the early 1700s, two-thirds of the authority was exercised by a certain Theodoor van Roosendaal from Antwerp, but until the end of the 18th century the Bette family was again the owner. On 14 April 1759, the other third of the seigneury, together with the free lordship of Ertbrugge, came into the hands of Jan Papejans van Morkhoven.
