Enghien or Enghien is a small town on the language border southwest of Halle. From the 17th century, the town belonged to the influential family of Arenberg. They had one of the most beautiful parks in Europe built around their castle. Of the castle only the tower of the 12th century castle chapel remains. But you can still walk around in the beautiful park along, among other things, a Chinese pavilion from the 18th century.
Enghien a centre of carpet weaving between the 15th and 18th centuries. Some beautiful carpets from that time can be admired in the Musée de la Tapestry. It is housed in the Maison de Jonathas, a 16th century mansion built around a 12th century Romanesque keep.
