Just like in other occupied countries, art was stolen in our country during WWII and art was also purchased for large sums. Belgium has always claimed that its wartime past was investigated and that there were no paintings with a problematic provenance in Belgian museums. This turns out not to be true.
Here in the Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, there is a work by Cornelis Cornelisz van Haarlem: Ceres and Bacchus and a work by Roelant Savery: Orpheus and the Animals.
