The Bernistap tunnel was part of a megalomaniac project from the early 19th century to connect the Meuse with the Moselle through a canal and tunnels. After the independence of Belgium, this utopian plan came to an end. The Bernistap tunnel – 2,528 meters long – is a remnant. After years of neglect, the site has become overgrown. Little remains of the canal except for a pond.
