The company 'Lotus' was founded in Lembeke in 1932 by the Boone brothers. Originally they manufactured gingerbread and speculoos, and later they specialized on the second product.
The first takeover took place in 1969, when 'Biscuiterie Tourist' in Nieuwkerken-Waas was purchased, a cake bakery.
The company 'Corona' was a cake factory that originated from a bakery of the Stevens family, and started producing on an industrial scale in 1937. He introduced the Liège waffle in 1970, and moved production to Oostakker in 1972.
On 1 January 1974, Lotus and Corona merged to jointly conquer the Belgian market. From there, the aim was to penetrate the markets of neighbouring countries, which required acquisitions, as there are strong local differences in cakes and pastries.
