The central forest zone, located between the Rietgracht and the Scheldt, is a vast native forest. The planting of the native forest always takes place in the Week of the Forest. The planting was always done with the parents who had a child in Ghent last year. In 2009, the first trees of the native forest were planted. The birth forest expresses that ghent children should have a healthy and good future. A birth forest is therefore an ideal birth gift for the new Ghent residents.
