Hoevenen is a part of the municipality of Stabroek in the Belgian province of Antwerp. Hoevenen was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977. In the 13th century, a parish was established here, as a split from the Saint Lambertus parish in Ekeren. Around 1248, Gillis van Attenhoven began the reclamation of land. The area was then called Attenhove or Ettenhove. In 1334, the name Hoeven was used for the first time. The population was spread over a number of hamlets, but flooding forced them to settle in a higher area.
