Historically, the parish belonged to the barony of Gavere, in the castellany and the land of Aalst.
The tiny village has only one monument, the Church of St. Gangulfus. It probably dates from the 12th century, but has been rebuilt so many times that only the side walls of the nave remain of its Late Romanesque origins. It was extended as early as the 13th century, and in the 14th-15th centuries the flat Romanesque choir was replaced by a polygonal Gothic construction that is higher than the nave. The church was restored in 1892-1893, with the Leuven architect Joseph François Piscador adding a new west façade. Protection followed in 1936. In 2018, this church was put up for sale.
