This village has a connection to Hergé. Marie-Léonie Dewigne, the mother of Hergé and his twin brother, had been a maid for Countess Errembault de Dudzeele. The twins spent their entire youth with their mother on the countess's estate in Chaumont-Gistoux.
There is regular speculation about who the father of the twins was, as he is not known. Because Leopold II often visited here, a connection is made as a potential father of Hergé. But this has never been proven.
