Borlo is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. Borlo was also the municipality to which Buvingen, Mielen-boven-Aalst and Muizen belonged since 1971, and was an independent municipality with 2400 inhabitants until 1977. In 1065 Borlo was placed under the guardianship of the Abbey of Sint-Truiden by Bishop Adalbero III of Metz. In 1263, jurisdiction passed to the Counts of Loon, while the tithe and patronage rights of the parish remained in the hands of the Abbey. When Loon was annexed by the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, Borlo was also involved. The lordship was regularly pledged by the prince-bishops, as in 1762 to Baron Van Schoor and Baron Van Malta. Then to canons of the Saint Lambert chapter in Liège, namely De Bormans de Hasselbroek, De Pollard and Van Woestenraadt.
