Opitter is a village in the Belgian province of Limburg and a part of the city of Bree. It has about 2,500 inhabitants.
Opitter was first mentioned in 1143, as Itera et alia Itera quae dicitur nova ; These are resp. Opitter en Neeritter. The oldest traces of habitation are objects from the Neolithic era. In the 13th century, Opitter was a lordship of the county of Loon. The castle park Opitter is the only remnant of the local castle. The lords came from the genera "van Lieck", "van Meeuwen", "van Horion", "Dans", "Raes de Scrip", "Panis", "de Kellens" and "Vissers".
