Tilleur has historically been part of the domain of Avroy. Here rested the mortal remains of Saint Hubert, before they were transferred to the Saint Hubert Abbey. In the 9th century, Tilleur was also donated to this abbey by the Bishop of Liège. At the beginning of the 14th century, the abbot of the Saint Lawrence Abbey established the Saint George's Hospital in Tilleur. In 1603, Tilleur was then purchased by Jan Curtius.
