Kachtem is a village in the municipality of Izegem, in the Belgian province of West Flanders. Kachtem is located on the Mandel and the Roeselare-Leie canal. Until December 31, 1976, it was an independent municipality. Kachtem has an area of 5.17 km2 and has about 3700 inhabitants. The name Kachtem is a corruption of the Frankish name "Cackingeheim" and was first mentioned in 1116. Composite Cack-inge-heim is divided into Cack whose meaning is unknown, Inge means descendants and heim means residence.
