The province of East Flanders built a beautiful sports centre on the 6 km long Boerekreek. The Oostpolderkreek (2 km) and the Bentille creek (2.5 km) are nearby. The Leopold Canal flows through this nature reserve from Boekhoute to Heist, which was dug in the mid-19th century to remove the water and therefore the marsh disease from this region. Towards junction 82 we cycle straight through a protected area for breeding birds. Please respectfully enjoy this natural part of Flanders!
