In 1914 the bridge was destroyed by the retreating Belgian army, but later repaired. The bridge was also destroyed during the Second World War and then repaired. At the insistence of the historical circles of Haacht and Keerbergen, the bridge was classified as a monument on 16 March 1998. From now on, the new Oude Hans Bridge will only be accessible to cyclists and pedestrians.
