In the Sixtus forests pedunculate oak is most common, but locally we also find sweet chestnut, common ash, rough birch, sweet cherry and rowan. Hazel, European bird cherry, Guelder rose, elderberry and blackberry are particularly popular in the shrub layer. If you look carefully, you will also find the rare two-style hawthorn, medlar and forest rose. The seeds of the autochthonous dirt tree, Guelder rose and hazel are harvested to be cultivated for other forests.
We also walk along the 2.5-hectare play area. Here, the youth can romp to their heart's content, away from the paths.
