In the fight against flooding in Zaventem, a large retention pond was constructed on a site against the Great Ring (in the vicinity of H. Henneaulaan).
The area next to and around this retention basin was developed into a walking park. A circuit of walking paths connects to a path around the retention pond and the bike path towards Woluwe.
Maximum use was made of native plants (shrubs, woodland plants, roses). For safety reasons, a fence with a height of 1.20 m was installed around the retention pond. The retention pond and walking park were officially inaugurated by the municipal authorities in June 1996.
