This Nail Tree or Pine Tree was named tree of the year in 2015. The Voeren nail tree - a horse chestnut full of rusted nails - also competed for the title of 'European tree of the year'. This election is set up annually by 'EPA', a Czech environmental organisation. A team of local experts, a 12-member jury, finally unanimously chose this nail tree in 's Gravenvoeren for Belgium: a rather anonymous horse chestnut, were it not for the fact that the bark is full of nails.
