Direction Zingem - Steenweg 1 - is the former poorhouse. It was founded in 1863 by Sabina De Groote, who had been a widow of P. Fr. De Bock since 1836. It was originally managed by laypersons, and in 1896 it was taken over by the religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary from Nederbrakel. Until 1927, it served as a nursing home. It is now owned by the OCMW and is regularly used as an exhibition space by IERMA (Ideas & Expressions of Real Modern Art). Edmond de Perre-Montigny was the architect. On the front façade, there is a memorial stone with the text: 'founded by Miss Sabina De Groote, wife of Mr. P. FR. De Bock, who passed away in Asper on April 30, 1836'. In Asper, the building is known as the Court of the Vandenberghe brothers, a former owner.
