On the territory of this borough of Brakel we find the castle of Lilare. It is a remnant of the lordship of Lilare that was already mentioned in the 12th century. The estate was purchased in 1933 by the Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi who set up a lyceum for girls. The site itself is private area but take a walk up the stately lane and enjoy the beautifully restored gatehouse.
