The Ypres Salient was an important frontline during World War I. The Ypres Salient formed a bulge in the Western Front and was thus a piece of Allied territory in occupied German lands. You can explore the rolling landscape of the Ypres Salient with the walking network and/or the cycling route Ypres Salient. Along the way, numerous monuments and cemeteries commemorate the bloody battles fought in this area.
At three locations along the Ypres Salient, you can evoke the wartime landscape of 100 years ago by entering new access points, either on foot or in the landscape of today. At these access points, you will find information about the last witnesses of World War I in and around Ypres.
