On the sign of the Zoë Borluut bridge you can see that Zoë Borluut was a local benefactor. Most people from the region don't really know what she did exactly, but the castle she donated is all the more familiar to the inhabitants of this region. In 1858 Zoë De Potter-Borluut donated the castle of De Pinte (now O.C.M.W. and a retirement home) and its domain to the Nazareth Bureau of Benevolence, to provide shelter for at least six elderly men and six elderly women from the hamlet of De Pinte (led by the Sisters of Charity). When De Pinte became an autonomous municipality in 1868, this home was the main point of contention in the separation. Nazareth did not want to give up 'the hospice' just like that, but the court ruled in favor of the new municipality of De Pinte. To this day, it houses the services of the O.C.M.W. and a retirement home for about sixty residents, adapted to today's needs.
