The Castle of Zellaer, located north of the center of Bonheiden, was built between 1888 and 1892, commissioned by Baron Gustavius Eugenius Leo Maria Gislainus de Vrière. The plans were drawn up by architect Heugenbaarts from Mechelen. During the construction of the building, white sandstone from the demolished forts of Vilvoorde was used. The farmers dependent on Zellaer had to transport it with horse and cart. Tradition claims that it is a scaled-down copy of a castle on the Loire. Evidence regarding this has still not surfaced. The neo-Gothic castle is surrounded by a moat, and the park still has several wide ditches. Currently, a reflection center is located in the building.
