Gaarkeuken 110 is the last remaining soup kitchen in the Port of Antwerp. Soup kitchens were established from the second half of the 19th century until the 1920s to provide dockworkers with the opportunity to warm up and eat cheaply. Until shortly before World War I, the soup kitchens were also the place where dockworkers were recruited and paid.
