Old Stokkem is alive and kicking. Old documents first mention the town of Stockheim in 1181. Perhaps the importance of the town grew rapidly, because in 1244 it already had city rights. Until the 19th century, Stokkem had a walled wall with city gates, but today only the Blue Wall remains. The castle of the Counts of Loon stood on the hill until the Dutch blew it up in 1702. Since 1878, Carolinaberg Castle has stood there. In the Stadsgraaf you will find the monument Bussel Wissen, which was erected in 1994 during the celebration of 750 years of city rights. Once again, it symbolizes the past activities
