The Albert Canal is a 130 km long connection between the Scheldt in Antwerp and the Meuse in Liège. It was dug between 1930 and 1939. It had both a transport and defensive function as well as an anti-tank channel. However, during the May 10 invasion in 1940, the Germans managed to capture two bridges intact.
