The Market from a different angle. On the left the town hall, and the "Catholic Circle". On the right, the most eye-catching are the 'People's House' and the Schotte House. The latter was demolished in 2009 and replaced by a new building. Schotte was already a bicycle manufacturer before the First World War and invented the ball bearing, among other things. He also had his own cycling team.
The remarkable house on the left is a defining feature. The block was built around 1900 by Van Wambeke. He ran a shoe shop on the ground floor, he lived on the first and second floors and the 'glass' third floor was his photo studio. The configuration of the building is still clearly recognizable.
