Het Zoute is the easternmost part of the town of Knokke and thus also the easternmost seaside resort in Belgium.
Historically, there was a narrow dune strip by the sea. Furthermore, there were the inland dunes. In between lay an area of salt marshes where sheep grazed. Deeper inland, there were small settlements of a few farmhouses, from which Knokke would eventually emerge.
