Take a look at the words ‘Cycles Alcyon’ in bas relief on the front wall of house number 63. This was the home of a Brussels salesman representing this French brand.
The French company Alcyon began producing bicycles in 1903. Between 1907 and 1910 the popular Belgian cyclist, Cyrille Van Hauwaert, raced for the successful Alcyon team. The French manufacturer also had its eye on the Brussels cyclist and three-times tour winner, Philippe Thys. However, he opted to stick with the competitor, Peugeot. In 1954, Peugeot took the company over.
