About Boulevard de la Gare, Pascal Verbeken writes in his book Grand Central Belge the following: "Mariembourg lived off the station. Many residents were cheminots, railway workers. The Rue de la Gare (editor's note: Boulevard de la Gare) had no private homes around World War II, only shops that relied on the traffic from the station. Today, not a single shop remains."
