The Chertal gravel pits are located on the banks of the Meuse, a few kilometers downstream from Liège. Part of the property of the ArcelorMittal metallurgical plant, they consist of three bodies of water surrounded by spontaneous woodlands (notably willow beds) and wasteland areas. The site contains several rare plant species such as arrowhead (Sagittaria sagittifolia), but its main interest lies in its ornithological value.
