The Walenhoek nature reserve is located in the former clay pits of the De Neef-Landuyt brickyard. These were initially intended as landfills. Fortunately, there were protests and the Walenhoek was given a new chance. The result is a varied landscape with large ponds, reed beds and thickets. If you're lucky, you'll see the Galloway cattle grazing, robust Scottish cows with a gentle temperament.
