The place where the jetty of the ferry in Sint-Amands is located can be recognized from afar by the statue 'The Ferryman' by sculptor Marc Macken (1913-1977) and refers to the poem of the same name by the French-speaking Flemish poet Emile Verhaeren ('Le Passeur d'eau').
It was donated to the municipality of Sint-Amands on 27 November 1966 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of Emile Verhaeren, who was born in Sint-Amands.
