You are standing here at the expansive ponds of the Hamputten, a sub-area of the Groot Molsbroek nature reserve. This reserve is managed by the nature association vzw Durme. During longer freezing periods, the open, deep water of the Hamputten remains unfrozen for a long time. This makes it the ideal wintering place for many waterfowl and diving ducks, including the crested duck. The richly vegetated banks with reeds and willows also have a high ecological value year-round (but especially during the breeding season).
