The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk is the parish church of the village of Oostnieuwkerke, which belongs to the municipality of Staden in West Flanders, located at the Dorpsplein.
The first mention of a church building in Oostnieuwkerke dates back to 1093, when the bishop of Tournai granted the rights of the altare de Rollers cum appendicia sua de Nieukerka to the Augustine Abbey of Zonnebeke. Around 1200, a Romanesque church was built, which developed over the centuries into a small cruciform church with a bell tower and a semi-circular apse. In 1221, Oostnieuwkerke was mentioned as an independent parish. The patronage rights remained in the hands of the aforementioned abbey.
