The siege of Ath in the Austrian Netherlands by a French army under Maurice of Saxony took place in September/October 1745. In the campaign of 1744, Marshal Maurice of Saxony was ordered to break through the Dutch fortification belt in Flanders with an army of 90,000 men; The aim was to conquer Tournai, Ghent, Bruges, Ath and Mons. In June 1745, Tournai capitulated, thus securing the crossing of the Scheldt. After that, Ghent fell on 15 July, Oudenaarde, Dendermonde, Ostend and Nieuport.
