The Elishouthoeve

Source: Escaut sans Frontières - Grenzeloze Schelde

Description

'The Elishout forest used to be the property of the lords of Aa. At the beginning of the 14th century, the most important part of the Elishout forest was donated to the abbey of Forest by the van Aa family. The current Elishouthoeve has been extended and renovated several times. The current buildings date back to 1754. The buildings were raised in proportion to the courtyard, no doubt because of the regular flooding of the Senne. The Elishouthoeve was incorporated into the COOVI complex, which is now owned by the Flemish Community (VGC). The entire complex remains one of the best examples of the great abbey farms in the Brussels area.'
