Railway Line 38

Railway line 38 is a former Belgian railway line in the Land of Herve that runs from Chênée via Fléron, Battice, Herve, Aubel, and Homburg to Blieberg. The line was put into service in 1895. It was mainly used for coal transport from the mines in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, Micheroux, Battice, Retinne, Xhawirs, and Fléron, the livestock market of Battice, the agricultural market of Aubel, and the Mine seat of Blieberg. Passenger and freight transport were halted in 1957. The line remained open for military transport until 1989 and was dismantled in 1992. In 1997, the section between the Homburg station and the connection with railway line 24 was rebuilt by a private party with the intention of operating tourist trains over the 1.3-kilometer stretch. Between 2015 and 2018, the section through the tunnel (150 meters) was demolished. The railway line is still present both between the old Laschet tunnel and the connection with railway line 24 and on the Hombourg yard. Nowadays, there are concrete plans for the reactivation of the section between Hombourg and Montzen for museum purposes.

At Homburg, the railway line runs semi-circularly around the Schaesberg hill and the Laschet tunnel, which was blown up in World War II.
