Merlons are raised walls that were built around the ammunition buildings.
They served to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings in the event of an explosion or fire .
The miniature buildings were demolished in 2007-2008 . Many rare heather plants grow on the south-facing slopes of the merlons.
Nearby is the heidetoren which is 6 meters high. The architecture is based on the watchtowers of the 1945-1946 prisoners of war who were in the tent camps here. It was then used again as an ammunition depot.
