Arne Quinze - Beaufort 2012
Arne Quinze developed a sculpture cluster for the city of Ostend named Rock Strangers. Strange objects that appear in locations where you least expect them, such as the revamped Zeeheldenplein, the hotspot of the city. It looks as if they have washed ashore. Their bright orange color stands in sharp contrast to their natural surroundings and creates a disorienting effect. His Rock Strangers form a colorful accent in an otherwise fairly neutral urban environment. With the immense metal installation, Quinze aims to counterbalance the increasingly strong homogenization in urban planning. He also wants to penetrate the safe cocoon that people build around themselves in the city. Strange elements emerge and contribute to the multi-society.
