The Posthoorn originally belonged to the bailiff Willem de Clerck , who set up his court in the building.
From 1588 the Bethaniën monastery was housed here again, until 1783 when the monastic order was abolished under French rule and the property became private property. As we often see, the monastic community bought the monastery back.
Part of the building was bought by JF Scheppers, who turned it into the De Posthoorn brewery.
