The largest part of the Beguinage Park used to belong to the gardens of the Groeninge Abbey and the Sint-Vincentius rest home. The last residents of Groeninge Abbey were the Poor Clares.
The park is still completely walled in today, with three different access points. Only the old boundary wall with its three brick gates, a small chapel, and a few valuable trees remain of the park's original structure.
The park also serves as a beautiful setting for numerous outdoor activities and is the ideal spot for a moment of rest, a picnic, or letting the kids run around.
Currently, the Groeninge Abbey is being completely transformed into Abby, a future exhibition site for visual arts.
PLEASE NOTE: due to the ongoing work at Abby, it is likely that construction disturbances will take over for a while.
