The street names also refer to World War II.
Breendonklaan refers to the Fort of Breendonk: originally, the fort served as the headquarters of the Belgian army during World War II, but it was soon used by the German Gestapo as a transit camp for resistance fighters and Jews.
The Fritz Vinckelaan (and his wife) Seraphine Zoetestraat, Louis Vander Schaeghestraat, Henri Vanblaerestraat, Maurice Lagravièrestraat, and Frans Provoostplein (see photo) are named after the resistance fighters who perished during World War II in concentration camps.
