Description by the author

In a valley surrounded by hills , Celles, voted one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia, reveals its hidden treasures along its streets.

With the arrival of Saint-Hadelin in the 7th century , a place of pilgrimage developed here.

A little further away is the fairytale castle of Veves , which is considered one of the most beautiful in Belgium.

On this walk we discover the village of Celles and after 5 km we arrive at the castle of Veves . This can be visited (count on one hour; pay attention to visiting hours) and there is a terrace during opening hours (separate from the entrance to the castle). Then we return along the Parc de Noisy.

Park at the collegiate church of Saint-Hadelin and we first walk to the hermitage , which offers a beautiful view .

We descend back along the Way of the Cross to walk back up the hill on the other side of the village past the old school.

We return to the village to take a look at the Grande Fontaine . We take a detour to absorb the story of the Panther tank from the Ardennes offensive - time for a drink on a terrace?

We take the main road and turn in front of the cemetery until we reach the GR , which we follow along rolling fields to the castle of Verves. During the weekend the castle can be visited and 'La terasse du chateau' is open.

We cross the main road and ascend past typical Ardennes houses to the Parc de Noisy until we are again among the fields. The hermitage looms up from far away and a picnic area allows us to enjoy the view of Celles one last time.

Back to the center of Celles with its natural stone buildings and a number of nice terraces. What would you think of a “chausson cellois” and a nice Sint-Hadelin beer ?
