The nature trail in the Meerdaalwoud starts at the reception area De Speelberg in Sint-Joris-Weert (Oud-Heverlee) (Weertse Dreef No. 25). There are three routes (4.8 km - 7.9 km - 15.2 km) and all three lead 100% through one of the most beautiful forest areas in Flanders. The Meerdaalwoud is an ancient forest that formed after the last Ice Age about 10,000 years ago. It has never been logged.

The short route is almost flat, but the two longer routes have some steep ascents. The steepest is the climb to Tomberg. At this clearing in the forest, justice was administered in the Middle Ages. The two long routes pass through the semi-open, finely structured farmland between the Heverleebos and the Meerdaalwoud, with magnificent views while jogging along the majestic Herculesdreef. You also pass the beautifully maintained vineyards (over 10 hectares) of Chardonnay Meerdael.

For the children who are jogging along, there is the play forest, the grill area, and the camping corner - all not far from the start - places they will certainly want to return to later. Anyone who takes their waste home and keeps their car out of the forest is welcome.
