The Simplon pass is an Alpine pass located in Valais. Culminating at 2,008 meters, it is open all year and is an integral part of the H9 national road leading from Brig to Stresa, Italy.
The road was built between 1801 and 1805 by the engineer Nicolas Céard sponsored by Napoleon Bonaparte, the objective being to open a passage to his artillery.
